Tuesday Turnaround: Stretching Your Meat Budget

Tuesday Turnaround: From turning something old into something "new" to turning your thinking around, you can save yourself some $money$ either way.

Have you ever bought a large 5 lb. chub of beef so you can divide it up into 5 neat little 1 lb. parts to freeze (either cooked or raw) for later meals?

I was doing this the other day while complaining to my sister on the phone about the rising cost of ground beef. I told her what I was doing and she suggested dividing it into an extra part -- 6 neat little parts just under a pound each. I had never thought about it before.

By the time you serve the meal, no one is going to miss that extra bite of meat they would each have gotten.

Then I have an extra meal's-worth of beef ready to use in the freezer. If it is already cooked, I simply heat/defrost it and can easily make any meal that requires ground beef:

• Chili
• Tacos
• Spaghetti
• Hamburgers
• Hamburger Helper
• Beefy Nachos
• and MORE!!

Thank you for my AWESOME sister Emily who told me to do this. ;o)

CVS Cash Card List (1/29/12 - 2/4/12)

The Current CVS Deal:

FREE $10 CVSCash Card when you spend $30 or more on select products with your CVS Extra Care Card. (Look for the CVSCash Card symbol [pictured above] on specially marked items in the circular and in store. The CVSCash Card is not actual cash and will pay out in the form of a gift card.)

Limit 5. While supplies last. No rainchecks. See stores for FULL details.

***The details state: "While supplies last." But to get around that, you can simply have the $10 put onto a regular Gift Card. I have been using the same actual card for months now and they loaded it with my $10.***

The $30 purchase is BEFORE the coupons, so you can really save a bundle when you factor in the $10 CVSCash card. One trick I have figured out is that you don't have to be over or even exactly at the $30 mark on reward deals at CVS, so if an item is $9.99 the 1c difference to the next dollar amount does not matter toward your total. (I always try to get it less than 50c from the $30 mark, but some people have reported a wider margin.)

The items that are qualifying purchases for this week are (prices listed are BEFORE Qs):
  • Nexxus Shampoo, Conditioner or Stylers (excludes trial sz) = NO SALE PRICE GIVEN
  • ALL Revlon Cosmetics = BOGO50%
  • Almay eye liner, shadow, or mascara = BOGO50%
  • Xtra 2x Laundry detergent 28 loads = $1.49
  • Nabisco: Chips Ahoy 9.5-15.25oz or Nilla wafers 11oz = 2/$5
  • Dr. Pepper 12oz cans 12pk selected varieties = 3/$11 (limit 6)
* These items were marked in the circular as having current Qs out in this week's Sunday paper.

Be sure to maximize your savings for the BEST deal by using Qs on as many items in your purchase as you can on these CVSCash Card deals!! ;o)

If you liked this post, please check out the current weekly CVS post: HERE.

If I missed an item in the ad or there are other unadvertised items on the gift card list that are not listed here, I do apologize for human error. Also, I can not be held responsible if the store does not allow a deal for any reason.

Clearance + Coupons = $AVING$

Have you ever taken you coupons down the clearance aisle before?

Let me tell you about the DEALS I got this week.

Show 'n Tell:

Example Deal 1: I got this hair dye for $1.25 after $2Q!

$3.25(clearance price) - $2Q(shown) = $1.25

Example Deal 2: I got these for 99c each after $8Q and Shopkick rewards (Click HERE for info on Shopkicks)!

These games are marked down right now (1/24/12) for an after Christmas clearance for $13.99 at Best Buy in Tyler. You can print an $8 coupon HERE (2 prints allowed per computer). That makes these $5.99! WOW!!
To make the deal even sweeter, I used my Shopkick rewards and got an additional $5 off of mine! Final price: 99c each after printableQ and reward. WhooooHooooo!
(After clicking the link to the printable Q, you may have to click the category "toys and games" in the left hand margin to verify that the correct Q has been selected.)
**If you happen to have any Best Buy RewardZone points, you might be able to score this for 99c using a $5 (250 points) reward certificate.

Note: Clearance items are commonly mis-rung at the register because of the way they are marked down. Be sure to watch the screen extra carefully during transactions containing clearance items. I had to get corrections on BOTH of these transactions.
1. The hair dye rung up regular price, but when I pointed it out the cashier pulled up a list of the marked down colors and fixed it.
2. Best Buy registers ring tax PRE-coupon. This is not by Texas law. They had to refund the sales taxes charged on the couponed amount.

I am not responsible for a deal not ringing up correctly or in the way in which you planned.

Tuesday Turnaround: Recycle Denim Jeans

Tuesday Turnaround: From turning something old into something "new" to turning your thinking around, you can save yourself some $money$ either way.

Have you ever had a pair of denim jeans that get a hole in them or a stain on them, but the rest of the pants are still in great condition? You can't stick them into the next yard sale, but you also can't bring yourself to throw them out either. Well I have the perfect solution for you:

Recycle the jeans to make Denim Roads!! The kids will LOVE them!

Denim Roads:

Supplies:
- damaged pants
- sturdy fabric scissors
- white or yellow paint pen

Instructions:
1. Cut into (as many as you can) approximately 4" X 8" strips (some curved).
2. Use the paint pen to make the broken center stripes.
3. Set out to dry.

Simply add a few die cast cars and you're ready to roll!  :o)

Thank you for my AWESOME friend Mandi who made these for my son out of her husband's jeans. ;o)

EASY Leftovers Everyone Will Eat (Crock Pot or Not)

This is now officially the start of my new series,
Tuesday Turnaround: From turning something old into something "new" to turning your thinking around, you can save yourself some $money$ either way.

Have you ever gotten to the end of a meal, everyone is done, but there is about a spoonful of everything left? It's not enough to save, but too much to through away without feeling guilty. You feel like just eating it, but you are already STUFFED. lol

Well, I have the perfect solution for you:

My grandmother always kept a butter tub in the freezer and stuck those little bits of veggies, meat, pasta, rice, etc. in it at the end of the meal. Anything that you would find in soup (we put black-eyed peas in ours once -- YUM!). When the tub got full, she would thaw it out and make soup out of it.

Nowadays I put mine straight into the crock pot (no thawing required). Add a few odds and ends and you have something everyone will eat (cause they've already eaten each item the last 2 weeks anyway). And it usually has leftovers that reheats well.

Here is the recipe.

Train Wreck Soup

1 tub leftovers (see above)
1 small can tomato sauce
1 can Rotel or diced tomatoes
1 can mixed veggies (if desired)
1 cup dry noodles (add 30 minutes before serving)
salt and pepper to taste
(add anything else that is lacking like extra meat or potatoes, etc.)
cover with water to desired thickness
Put crock pot on low for all day (dinner) or high for 1/2 day (lunch).
Serve with Crackers, cornbread, or chips. Dress it with cheese if you like. The possibilities are endless so be creative. It turns out different every time! :o)

It's SUPER  EASY!! And good for you, too.
:oP -- MMMM! Call me when it's soup. lol

(This deal must be combined with other offers on the CVSCash Card list to make these $1.67/12pk after the $10 CVSCash Card)

Current Coupon Database

A Coupon Database is a list of the current coupons that are out. The list tells you the product, the coupon $ amount, the insert (name and date) or print site, and the expiration date.

If you are looking to see if there is a current coupon for a product you want to buy, this is the place to look. :o)

Here is the link to the Coupon Database.

Thank you Thrifty Texas Penny for posting this for our fellow couponers.

CVS Cash Card List (1/8/12)

Special Sale on Cosmetics:  Select Cosmetics on sale 50% or 75% off the regular retail prices (Look for the yellow 50% and red 75% stickers on the items) - "Savings while supplies last! Discounts taken at register. Cannot be combined with any other offers."

The NEW CVS Deal:

FREE $10 CVSCash Card when you spend $30 or more on select products with your CVS Extra Care Card. (Look for the CVSCash Card symbol [pictured above] on specially marked items in the circular and in store. The CVSCash Card is not actual cash and will pay out in the form of a gift card.)

Limit 5. While supplies last. No rainchecks. See stores for FULL details.

  • CVS Brand, Gold Emblem, or Absolutely Devine Products (exclusions shown on tag above) (these items are on the list thru this week (1/14))
